"Own your own pony"
For keener members we run an “own your own pony” scheme, whereby a child is allocated a pony on a monthly basis. To be effective this needs to be seen as more than just a one month slot. This gives the child the feeling of ownership and in practical terms a lesson a week and eight separate riding slots per month. The child is encouraged to care for the pony – grooming, tack cleaning and stable management – to practically learn all about “owning” a pony. Note: we only offer this opportunity to riders who regularly take lessons with us.
Note: all activities must have a minimum number of participants to run, as well as having a maximum, so book early.
NEW: Berkshire Riding Centre / Pony Club sweat shirts - £20. If you want a special sweat shirt call or ask when you are next in. Most sizes available .. only £20.

BRC Policy - Safeguarding & Child Protection:
We have recently updated our Child Protection policy and over the coming months will be updating all practices to be consistent with it.
The Centre believes that everyone who participates in equestrian activities at the Centre is entitled to practice their discipline an enjoyable and safe environment.
In particular the
welfare of young people (and vulnerable
adults) is paramount to us and children have the right to be protected from
abuse. Specifically:
•
All young people who take part in
Equestrian Events should be able to participate in a fun and safe environment
and in an atmosphere of fair play
•
The Centre will takes all reasonable
practical steps to protect children from harm, discrimination and degrading
treatment and respect their rights, wishes and feelings
•
All suspicions and allegations of poor
practice or abuse will be taken seriously and responded to swiftly and
appropriately.
It is the responsibility of child protection
experts to determine
whether or not abuse has taken place, but is
everyone’s
responsibility to
report any concerns
• All staff are required to sign up to the BEF procedures for good practice and child protection that clearly state what is required of them.
To deliver this intent the Berkshire Riding Centre Ltd takes many
steps including:
1.
The Centre uses as the
underpinning of its policy the guidelines set out by the British Equestrian
Federation. The good practices (see below) detailed in that document are
interwoven into the Centre’s practice.
2.
As part of staff induction staff
are taken through this document and the key elements are explained.
3.
All staff are CRB checked.
4.
As part of their development
staff go on the appropriate Child Protection courses.
5.
Licences are obtained from the
local authority (Bracknell Forest) for any child under the school leaving age
who wishes to work at the Centre. A letter dealing the nature of the work, risks
involved and what the child can expect from us is sent to the family and must be
signed by the child and a parent
before any such work may commence for all young people under the age of 18,
independent if this works carries any remuneration or not.
6.
The Centre has current risk
assessments and a policy on bullying & harassment which all staff are
knowledgeable about – it forms part of the standardised induction programme and
copies are available in the main office.
7. All staff are trained in first aid, and designated first aiders are on site at all times.
8.
Riding hats must be worn at all times.
A full copy of this policy is available on request and will shortly be available on this website as a pdf download.
