People are what makes the difference, we have many well trained and experienced professionals. We also help young people take their first steps in an equestrian career by supporting the apprentice scheme to deliver intensive training to enable them achieve NVQ and other qualifications. In this respect we are a BHS approved “Where to Train” Centre
Rosie Lord, BHSI
Director and Owner
Throughout my career I have looked for and trained with the best. In my early days I helped to buy and train the Abbott Davies Balancing Rein horses, including Polygor, Taimur, Daguet, Dallas and Fleur Blue. Taimur and Polygor later long listed with Nigel Taylor for Los Angeles Olympics. Fleur Blue and Dallas competed to great success by Malcolm Pyrah. Dallas bloodlines ripple throughout the showing, show jumping, and eventing horses of today.
During my travels I worked in Germany , France and many Latin American Countries. Whilst in Colombia I produced many national champions in dressage and show jumping, taking the teams to success in the Caribbean, Bolivian and Pan American Games. I was team trainer for the 1988 Seoul Olympics, which included the youngest rider ever to have ridden in the Olympics. I helped to introduce international competitions in dressage and show jumping, and to re-write national rules and tests in Colombia, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic. I also helped set up judge training and coaching for trainers by international coaches.
I have been fortunate enough to help numerous riders to international success, and know the hard work and dedication this takes. I have had the privilege to find, ride and train numerous horses to competition success up to international level. I have frequently put the two together, starting with new riders and young horses.
I set up the Berkshire Riding Center Ltd. in 1996. Since then I have helped numerous clients to achieve success at both national and international levels. I have also produced my own horses, Fizal and Willow, to competition success.
Here is the team
Kristy is the senior instructor on the yard as well as managing the Pony Club Programme.
She also keeps her horse, Sasha, at the yard.
Emma Smith: recently promoted to Stable Manager. Emma is responsible for all horse care and stable management on the yard, and the groom team report to her. She should be your first contact when you come to the yard.
Emma joined us in 2010 having worked in various equestrian centres such as Braeside and Durfold Farm, as well as participating in the sport herself. She has her Modern apprenticeship NVQ2 & 3 in Horse Care & Management, her PTT and is studying to gain further qualifications.
Marie Johnston: Marie joins the Centre after a career in accounting, most recently with Fiat UK. She is a qualified Chartered Accountant. Marie also enjoys riding and has been taking lessons at the Centre for a number of years. She joins the Centre at this time of growth to start a new role as Office Manager. Communication is always an important part of any business and our clients rightly want to be able to talk to someone about their booking or other issues without delay, Marie will manage this and help with many issues relating to the smooth running of the Centre. She will also continue training in equine issues and wants to achieve BHS and other qualifications in the future.
Helen James-Carter: Had been assisting at the yard for a number of years and now is an instructor specialising in teaching younger pupils. She has her NVQ 2 and PTT qualifications and is close to completing both her NVQ 3 and BHSAI qualifications.
Chloe Banks has joined us on the apprentice scheme and is on an NVQ programme supported by our supplier Haddons. She contributes to both the horse care side and instruction side of the Centre.
Hanna Mailander: Hanna joined the Centre as an Apprentice Groom on the NVQ programme from Wunstorf in Germany. She has many years experience in riding from both her own experiences and working in the industry in Germany which clearly shows in the contribution she so enthusiastically makes to the Centre.
Franchesca Bailey: Franchesca has joined us after completing her modern apprenticeship at Deen City farm Riding school. She also has her BHS stage 2 and 3 certificates and other qualifications. She supports both the horse care and in particular the instructor team and is already making a real difference.
Monika Medynska: Monica joins us from Poland having spent some time at a yard near Cardiff and has significant experience with horses in Poland. She has come to England to achieve BHS qualifications and develop a strong base for her equine career. She will report to Emma in general yard duties.
Magdalena (Magda) Zbita: Also from Poland Magda has senior Polish equestrian qualifications equivalent to BHSAI. However her English isn't perfect and she plans to get it up to scratch. This means that she will start out supporting the horse care side before being able to give lessons.
Finally : below is yard security in the form of Jade:
Training is an important element of the philosophy of the Centre, and all staff have a development programme and are gaining new qualifications. Staff training sessions are regularly held, frequently with external instructors. Robert Pickles, FBHS, gives staff training sessions each month.
